Intensive Horizons is an ongoing photographic study of the horizon, developed through repeated observations across Broken Bay since November 2000. Rather than treating the horizon as a fixed boundary between sea and sky, the series approaches it as a perceptual event: an unstable threshold continually remade by light, weather and atmosphere. Repetition operates as a refrain, each return revealing difference within apparent sameness. Abstraction functions here as a mode of atmospheric surgery: telephoto compression and the isolating cut of the frame act as a scalpel, separating narrow strata of sea, cloud and light from the wider landscape. This reduction is not an escape from the real, but a means of cutting more deeply into it, exposing forces and transitions that habitual perception tends to smooth over. The resulting archive records not a stable place, but the continuous becoming of what can be seen.
